Ernst Pelz found the company in Geretsried/Germany, manufacturing vehicle components for various applications.

Existing specialist knowledge in the area of shaping and processing fine veneers is expanded, and soon used for specialized orders.

1953:

The Empe company supplies the first fine wood components to the automotive industry.

1995:

MBO with CVC and GS capital partners

1998:

The company is renamed Novem Car Interior Design GmbH, as a consequence of a radical corporate restructuring program, making Novem the competent and innovative partner for automotive interiors, now and in the future.

2004:

New shareholder: AlpInvest Partners N.V.

2008: New shareholder: Barclays Private Equity

2011:

New shareholder: Bregal Capital LLP
